In a very short time our church ladies will be celebrating their annual Daughter’s Banquet.

When I was younger it was referred to as the Mother- Daughter banquet but in these times, we have ladies with no daughters, daughters whose mothers have gone to be with the Lord and pretty well any other combination of circumstances that you can think of and it was our dear Pastor who suggested renaming it the Daughter’s Banquet.  We are all daughters of someone whether they are with us here on earth or not, but above all we are all daughters of God.

I look forward each year to the enthusiasm this afternoon of devotions, skits, singing, food and fellowship generates among both young and old.

This year’s theme is based on a summer picnic with decorations, program and meal reflecting the picnic theme. (We may even have some ants!) The kind men of our congregation prepare and serve the meal and the ladies have a few hours to reflect on the goodness of our God and give thanks for His innumerable blessings.

The acronym that we developed for this year’s event is PICNIC Peace In Christ – New In Christ.

As the ladies -young and old gather each year I am always inspired by their anticipation, their laughter, and enthusiasm – young helping old, old encouraging young and the general noise level as they talk amongst themselves- sometimes to individuals they haven’t seen for a while.

I can’t help but be reminded that this comparatively small gathering is but a glimpse of the joy and celebrations that we will experience when we will gather with all His daughters (and sons) at the heavenly banquet that is prepared for us in heaven.

May God bless your summer activities with peace.
