“Mites” are voluntary financial offerings collected by members—inspired by the Biblical story of the widow’s mite. These funds are gathered by local groups and sent to the national organization to support national and international mission grants.
3. How are Mission Grants chosen and supported?
Mission grants are selected by voting delegates at the triennial national conventions. They fund various projects, such as the BC Mission Boat Society, Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada, and international outreach programs.
4. How can I become a member of LWMLC, Inc and are there any age restrictions?
Confirmed women of a LCC congregation can join LWMLC, Inc. There is no minimum age restrictions. The organization has over 1,800 members spread across 178 societies in Canada. Those without a local group can contact the national office for guidance on starting one.
5. What happens at a typical society meeting?
Meetings generally include a mix of Bible study, fellowship, prayer, and hands-on service activities (such as assembling layette baby bundles, knitting items for charity, or assembling hygiene kits).
6. What is the Tapestry publication?
Tapestry is the league’s award-winning national magazine. It features Bible studies, devotions, mission stories, and inspirational articles written for and by Lutheran women.
7. What is the League Pledge?
Members recite a formal pledge indicating fervent gratitude for the Savior’s redemption. It acts as a commitment of willing service, dedicating their hands, voices, financial resources, and will to extending Christ’s kingdom.
8. What does it mean to be an “Active Society”?
An active society is defined by four core actions: coming together for study/support, participating in ministry beyond the local congregation, providing financial support for LWMLC programs, and maintaining communication with national and district leadership.
9. What events and retreats are available?
