The Invitation

The Invitation

Dialogue based on Matthew 22: 8-10

(On the outskirts of the city by a slum area.)

King’s Servant (to the beggar on the road): You’re invited!

Beggar: Oh, that’s nice. Where?

King’s Servant: To a wedding banquet for the prince, the King’s son.

Beggar: You must have the wrong guy.  How is this so?

King’s Servant: Well, the King said that the ones intended for the wedding feast weren’t worthy to come.  He said that he wanted his banqueting hall full and that I, among other servants, were to go out and call all people so the King could celebrate this moment with as many people as possible.

Beggar: But I can’t go because I have nothing good enough to be in the King’s presence at the feast.

King’s Servant: Don’t be afraid. The King doesn’t ask you to be worthy to come by your effort.  He freely invites you and gives you what you need.  Receive his invitation in faith and rejoice in his goodness!

Beggar : But why me? I’m poor. Noone notices me.   Noone invites me to their table.  And now you say the King invites me to His palace?

King’s Servant : Yes, because the King’s love is greater than your poverty and your indignity!  Come!

(The Beggar follows in joyful amazement.)

(At the Wedding Feast addressing all present)

King: Welcome to the Wedding Feast for my Son and His Bride!  My joy is full having as many guests here as possible with whom to share this day which will last forever for my Son and His Bride!  Feast and enjoy my kingdom.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, may we thankfully receive your undeserved love in Jesus and feast with Him every Lord’s Supper in anticipation of our reunion forever in heaven.  In His name we pray, Amen.
