Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men. Ephesians 6:7
Many a time I have heard people say “Being a Christian has too many restrictions, giving up sleeping in on Sunday morning and I can’t have any fun doing what I want without feeling guilty”.
Is serving God only what we go to church Sunday morning or participate in other church activities during the week? Some would say yes but don’t you think serving God is much more than that? And guilty, are not we ALL sinners, by thought, word and deed?
Are we not serving God when we do daily devotions and reading the Word of God,learning about who our God is and building a relationship with Him, praying to Him in praise and thanksgiving and asking for guidance and help in our everyday challenges? I believe so and the more we are in the Word the closer we come to God and the desire to be a follower of Christ and the desire to be more Christlike we become. We find joy in all things – good and bad, in things we expect and take for granted now realizing all things are gifts from God and not of our own doing.
Being in the Word helps us to understand and appreciate His grace and mercy and unconditional agape love given us by the suffering of His only Son, and Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection on the third day assuring us of forgiveness and the hope ofeternal life with Him.
Out of praise and thanksgiving we should want to serve God and do all things to perfection as our way of saying THANK YOU GOD and wanting to share His love with others as He calls us to do. Be it cleaning, cooking, teaching, saving lives, being in the medical field, being a Pastor, parent, missionary, caregiver, electrician, plumber, lawyer, politian, carpenter, technologist, musician, author, the person who gives everyone they meet a smile and a “Hi how are you”, or an arm to cross the street or helping a mom with little ones, etc.
May I remember that my attitude in all I say or do and the quality in how I speak andperform, is how I am showing my obedience, love and respect to God our Father.
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Romans 12:11
