God’s Not Finished With You Yet
I visited a church member in the nursing home: correction Long Term Care (LTC). I brought flowers from the altar at church to brighten up the room. We had a pleasant visit. Fast forward to one month later.
I noticed the vase of flowers from last time I visited; dying, dead flowers, no water. This seemed similar to my friend who used to be bright and fresh but seemed to be slowly dying like the flowers.
The drapes were drawn, the room was in semi darkness as she lay on her bed. What was she thinking about? Her next meal. What happens to people when they are put into LTC, usually for health reasons. They grieve the loss of their home, their freedom, possibly the loss of a loved one.
How can my visit help? I read some Scripture and prayed but I thought I could have done more. We have to remember that God is not finished with us until He calls us home. So, God is not finished with her yet. She can pray for loved ones, her roommate, the nurses who care for her, the people who prepare her meals, her church and our country. As I left, I thought how sad that it’s like she’s just waiting, waiting to die. Psalm 139 tells us that God knows all the days He has for us. But God’s not finished with her yet. Next time, I’ll be sure to tell her that.
Please reach out to a church member or family member who needs the love of Christ and the reminder that God’s not finished with them yet.
