Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts honour Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.
The theme for the Flashlight (winter 2022) is: “Looking Ahead and Preparing.” This theme reminds me of preparing for a hike or journey and being prepared with the right equipment. The life of faith is a journey. Are you prepared? What do you have in your backpack for equipment? LWMLC helps us be prepared for this journey by the study of God’s Word, practice in sharing our faith, and responding in Christian love and service. “We are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
The Bible, God’s Word, is the most important treasure. God speaks to us through his Word and uses Scripture to direct our path and light our way (Psalm 119:105). He restores our soul and strengthens us for the journey (Psalm 23). He equips, motivates and encourages us as we call upon His Name in prayer in times of trouble and distress (Hebrews 4:14). God is the greatest encourager! He desires to be our help (Psalm 50:15). He is the Father of all mercies and God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3). He cleanses us from all unrighteousness and forgives all our sins (1 John 1:9). He himself is our Peace (Ephesians 2:14). “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
These Bible passages are some of the reasons for the HOPE we have in Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Hebrews 6:18-19 declares “We who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.” Christian witness begins with a person’s own faith. We must know what we believe according to God’s Word. Christians are to be prepared to share the truth of the Gospel to others wherever and whenever they have the opportunity.
Psalm 105:1-4
O give thanks to the Lord; call upon His name;
make known His deeds among the peoples!
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;
tell of all His wondrous works!
Glory in His holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and His strength;
seek His presence continually!
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Philippians 1:9-11
It is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Amen.
