HELP! I’m drowning in good works!
Oh, could you help on this committee? Sure, happy to help.
We need cookies for VBS. Can I count on you for 3 dozen? Sure, happy to help.
No one is signing up to be a greeter. Why not you? Why, not! Happy to help.
Bazaar is coming up. Can you cook a pot of chili? Well, I’m not so sure.
We’re decorating the church for Christmas and need help. I’m not so good at that.
Bible study needs a leader for the next little while.
Sunday school needs a teacher.
The choir needs new members.
Garden club needs to plant flowers.
Help, I’m drowning in good works. I can’t do everything. I’m getting worn out. I’m going to have to start saying NO. But to everything? Maybe not.
The Lord gives each of us special gifts.
Romans 12:6-8 “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”
1 Peter 4:7-11 “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.”
And finally, Colossians 3:23-24. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
So, ladies, what is your gift? Are you using it for God’s glory?
