Many Decades of VBS

Many Decades of VBS

It’s like a well-tuned machine! Vacation Bible School.

Our church’s VBS has served our community for over 40 years. We hold it on the first full week in July.

The “primary movers” have, for the most part, remained the same. We meet in February and by March we have chosen the one program which works for us. The next step is praying for the right volunteers to step forward. A superintendent, teachers, helpers, music director, craft coordinator, and sports director are all needed to keep everything moving well.

Each session includes group singing, action songs, offering, and prayers. Next, lessons and crafts come along, followed by time outside for sports (weather permitting). The morning ends as it started with a joyful sharing time of prayer, Bible verses and song.

Enthusiasm builds throughout the week as everyone looks forward to Friday, our Cupcake Day. Specially decorated cupcakes are sold for 25 cents each and the proceeds are added to the daily offerings to fund the chosen mission projects.

One of our favourite songs that we sing each year: “Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us, that we should be called the children of God” (a Bible verse sung as a round, based on I John 3:1 ESV)
