A time to plant and a time to wait
I write this on March the twentieth, the first day of Spring. Today I planted some marigolds from seed. I was reluctant because on the 15th of March, only five days previously, we were surprised with about a foot of snow, here in Vernon, BC. I planted them with the hope that they will take root and bloom so that I can transfer them to my flower garden when the temperatures warm up for good.
Here in Canada, Spring happens very differently in each province and territory, and even in each city. Like Ecclesiastes 3: “There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven.” Verse 2 b also tells us that there is “a time to plant and a time to uproot.” I do hope that I planted the marigold seeds at the right time, and that they will flourish and bloom in their time.
Now I wait patiently to see if they will take root and bloom. I should know in a few weeks if they will indeed sprout. In the meantime, they sit in my front room window soaking up the sun; when we get a clear day. We still have some gloomy cloudy days ahead, and hopefully some Spring rains. We live in a desert area that is at risk for wildfires, so we are praying for some more spring rains. The Bible encourages us in Psalm 27:14 to: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” That verse gives me the inspiration I need while I wait for the rains to come and for my marigolds to take root and hopefully bloom.
I wait on the Lord, as I am really looking forward to a garden full of bright and beautiful marigolds. I’ll keep you posted…
